Data Deletion Policy for OsmTrails and OsmTrails Lite Apps

The OsmTrails.com website does not store or collect any user data, nor does it support user logins.

User Data Stored on Devices Only

OsmTrails App stores user data exclusively on the user's own device. No automatic data sharing exists between devices—even if the same user installs the app on multiple devices.

GPS Track Data

GPS coordinates and optional hiking start-stop times are stored within a local database on-device. Users can completely erase this information by selecting the "RESET TRACKS DB" button located at the top left of the app's main screen.

Email Addresses (Optional)

Users can optionally input email addresses to facilitate the easy exporting and sharing of GPS tracks via email apps installed on their device. Such email addresses:

Phone Numbers (Optional)

Users can optionally provide phone numbers to facilitate sharing current GPS locations via text-message apps on their device. These phone numbers:

Cell Tower Signal Strength Data (Optional)

Users can choose to save signal-strength measurements from cell towers along GPS track points. This helps visualize signal coverage where you've already traveled. The "RESET TRACKS DB" button invokes a confirmation dialog that now includes a checkbox to optionally delete all the saved cell phone signal strength data. Note: regularly traveling the same route does not significantly increase data points, as the app is designed to minimize storage usage.

Exported & Imported GPS Tracks

OsmTrails has dedicated screens for managing stored GPS tracks:

Complete Data Removal

According to Android system design, uninstalling the OsmTrails app from your device automatically deletes all user-generated data associated with the application, without the need for further action from OsmTrails.com or its developer.

For any questions or further assistance regarding data privacy or deletion, feel free to contact developer Ron Ledbury.
