OsmTrails.com does not gather your data or share your data. The OsmTrails app does store your location data on your device. You may email or message others with your location or your GPX track data. You would do this through your email app or your messaging app, not through the OsmTrails.com website. See User Data Deletion page for how to delete your data. In the simplest terms, if you delete the app then the data is also deleted from your device. The only place data was collected or stored.
Ron Ledbury built the OsmTrails app, originally for his own personal use. This is provided by Ron Ledbury and is intended for use as is. I set out to track my walks in Portland's Forest Park, and stay on the paths. Then I added the eleven western-most American states. Then the entirety of the lower 48 states. It is the tool that I wanted for myself. For use offline, with path lines exaggerated to make them easy for me to see.
This page is used to inform visitors regarding my policies about the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decides to use OsmTrails app. See data deletion page noted above.
The OsmTrails app itself does not transmit any location information directly. The map files are downloaded in giant MBTiles formatted bundles, before you head out to the wilderness, rather than one tile at a time (revealing your likely location with each such request). OsmTrails does allow users to prepare text messages and emails containing location or GPS track files to send to others using other apps dedicated to that purpose (email or messaging apps).
Information Collection and Use
Some settings pages ask you to optionally provide personally identifiable information that may be used in the templates to create your message or email, otherwise no data is sent other than affirmatively by you in your SMS or email app.
The app does NOT use third party services that may collect information used to identify you.
Security
Web site host environment does log download activity -- for billing purposes -- for any maps made available for download from within the OsmTrails app.
Links to Other Sites
The MAP page now includes an arrow icon to invoke some other mapping app on your device to enable routing, for example to a trail head. The OsmTrails app does not provide "routing." It is too complex and error-prone of a task. You are the best router, by viewing the maps.
(Other folks offer printable maps in preparation for a hike. I do not. I may link to one or more on the web site OsmTrails.com)
Children’s Privacy
The OsmTrails.com website has no forum or messaging capability. The OsmTrails app takes advantage of messaging or email capabilities that might already be available on a users device. I have no control over these other apps.
